Multiplayer Level Analysis

For Game Design we had to analyze a level from a first person shooter. The level that I decided to do was Nuketown from Call of Duty Black Ops. Here is a link to my presentation.

Trailer

Attract Trailer Research

For game design, we have to find a good attract trailer from an arcade racing game. The trailer has to include gameplay in it. I did some research and out of all of the ones I saw, my favorite was from Need for Rivals. This trailer had really nice camera cuts that all fit together well. It also had very nice angles of different stunts and of the driving. They also include slow motion shots that work well in the trailer. It also shows off the different environemnts in the game, and how the player interacts with them. Like going off jumps, and destroying things. Lastly it shows how fun and awesome the game is and it draws the player in and makes them want to play the game, like a trailer should.

Vehicle HUD

Vehicle HUD Research

For programming class we are now making a HUD to go with our vehicle. I did some research on my vehicles HUD, and what some video games have. Here are some pictures of reference I found.

Then I made a mock-up of the HUD that I would like to create. I would like the have the numbers light up, and the red in the dial to light up also. I'm also thinking about possibly making the speedometer somewhat opaque.

Vehicle Turnaround

Here is the final turnaround for my car! Enjoy!

Particles

Particles

Here's a quick run through showing the particles I made, the first one you will see is the smoke coming out of the buildings. The second particle I made is a spark particle, that you will see coming out of the lights.

Particle Research

Particle Research

For Game Design class we are learning particles, and we now how to make our own particle to put in our racing levels. The particle I want to create is sparks that pop. I have these tall stadium lights in my level and I want them to spark randomly, and just have a random spark burst with a popping sound.

I followed this Sprite Emitter tutorial earlier, and I think it would give me a good start to getting the sparks. Here is the tutorial.

After some more research I found some documentation on Unreal Engine, they talk about creating a blueprint to help create a random burst of particles, light and sound. Here is a link to the page, I'm going to try to combine this with the other tutorial to hopefully create the particle I want.

I was also researching some real world examples, this is about the closest thing I could find, it's a little drastic, but it gets the point across. I want this to happen but much less it would be random sparks that are popping from the light.
